Zombieland TV show turns out to be Amazon's online programming
Posted by Patrick Sauriol on Tuesday, January 22, 2013

Plans for continuing the adventures of the Zombieland characters are afoot, but not as a feature film. Instead, it looks like Zombieland will become a series (which it had been originally planned to be). The twist is that the Zombieland serial won't be likely broadcast on network television, or even cable. Instead, the Zombieland show is being developed as part of Amazon's slate of original programming.
Casting sheets were first uncovered last week by io9. The four main characters from the 2009 Zombieland movie -- Tallahassee, Columbus, Wichita and Little Rock -- will be the show's primary characters. It looks like the series setting will be post-Zombieland movie events, so that budding romantic relationship between Columbus (Jesse Eisenberg's character) and Wichita (Emma Stone's character) is still in its early stages of forming. The quirky personality traits that we saw manifest in the show seem to be included in the character breakdowns that io9 uncovered.
There is also two new characters being added to the series, a pair of cops who are lost and adrift in this new post-zombiefied landscape. Fred and Ainsley are there names, which seems to break away from the city names that the other four characters have adopted. Perhaps that's to change during the course of the pilot, or maybe Fred and Ainsley won't be sticking around that long, if you get my drift.
Nothing official has been publicized by Amazon or any of the creative team that made the original Zombieland movie. Perhaps the first film's director, Ruben Fleischer, didn't know that Amazon was hatching the Zombieland online series. During the press junkets for his latest work, Gangster Squad, Fleischer was asked about the possibility of Zombieland 2, and nothing new was revealed. Maybe he was playing coy and waiting for that shoe to drop.
We also don't know how far along casting is for Amazon's Zombieland show. Undoubtedly all the movie roles will be recast for the online series, as I highly doubt Stone, Eisenberg, Woody Harrelson or Abigail Breslin will take the smaller paycheck.
