Monsters vs. Aliens pilot, Kung Fu Panda series in the works
Posted by Patrick Sauriol on Tuesday, May 19, 2009

Nickelodeon is getting into bed with DreamWorks Animation on two different projects. Last week the first venture was announced: a CG-animated Nick series based on Kung Fu Panda, the 2008 hit that earned DWA $631 million dollars worldwide last summer.
The kiddie cable channel has ordered an initial round of 26 episodes that will start to air in 2010. It's not known if Jack Black, Angelina Jolie or any of the movie's voice actors will reprise their roles for the tube toon.
Today DreamWorks Animation CEO Jeffrey Katzenberg revealed a new project that was in development, a pilot for a proposed Monsters vs. Aliens TV series. Nickelodeon will also be the broadcaster of that show. Katzenberg let slip the news during a webcast presentation at the J.P. Morgan Technology, Media and Telecom Conference but offered no further information about the MvsA pilot.
However, Jeff-K also spilled a bit about the new Shrek special DWA is making for NBC, a Halloween-themed show called Scared Shrekless. The same network will also air a holiday-themed Kung Fu Panda special closer to Christmas. Katzenberg told the conference listeners that he was enthusiastic with expanding DreamWorks' animated properties into television as they could have a longer shelf life and also generate tens of millions of additional dollars for the company.
