John Lithgow to give Showtime's Dexter killer competition
Posted by Patrick Sauriol on Thursday, May 28, 2009

Michael C. Hall's serial killer Dexter Morgan will be getting a mentor next season. Showtime has added John Lithgow to the cast of the show's fourth season as a new killer who moves to Miami, the hunting grounds of Hall's police detective by day, murderer by night.
Lithgow, who has played a few crazy killers in his time (Raising Cain, Cliffhanger), will appear in all 12 episodes of Dexter's fourth season. His character is named Walter Simmons but to the police and his victims he's known as the "Trinity Killer" because he likes to group his murders in threes. Simmons moves to Miami after Dexter's boss, Frank Lundy (Keith Carradine), finds a trail of clues that starts to flush out the killer from the shadows. Dexter becomes one of the agents assigned to the Trinity Killer investigation and becomes fascinated with his new competition's technique.
The new season of Dexter starts September 27 on the cable channel.
