August 19, 2009 - Outland / project announced
Scooped on Sunday, August 30, 2009
A remake of the 1981 science fiction thriller Outland is in development at Warner Bros. and with Hollywood Gang Productions developing it. Slated to direct the movie is Michael Davis (Shoot 'Em Up) from a screenplay by Chad St. John. Gianni Nunnari (300) will produce while Craig J. Flores will receive an executive producer credit.
The new Outland is being slightly revisioned from its predecessor. While the action will still take place on a mining base stationed on Jupiter's moon Io and the main character will still be a marshal who has to battle criminals without any backup, one new element being introduced is a new ally for the lawman in the form of a ex-partner who also happens to be his wife's former boyfriend.
"We loved the original sci-fi film with Sean Connery," explained Nunnari to Variety. "At its core, Outland is a version of High Noon in outer space, as two courageous people take a stand against a gang of ruthless conspirators at the highest level." [Full story]

I love Outland. But why is hollywood incapable of coming up with a new story? I mean, how hard is it?
I wouldn't even mind if it was similar, or a sequel. Just something a bit different with a different name, and leave *Outland* to it's own place in history, instead of having multiple films all called "Outland".
