March 10, 2009 - The Princess and the Frog / opening date moved up to December 11, 2009
Scooped on Saturday, May 23, 2009
The next traditional animated feature from Walt Disney Pictures will now arrive in theaters two weeks earlier. Originally Disney had intended for The Princess and the Frog to come out on Christmas Day this year but now the studio has bumped up the film. The picture will now open in wide release on December 11, 2009.
Disney will also try and create advance buzz for the flick by opening it in Los Angeles and New York City on November 25. Since this is the first new Disney princess since Mulan was released in 1998, and the first of the company's new era of traditionally animated films, much attention is being given to the presentation of The Princess and the Frog by Disney suits. The new princess being introduced in the film is Princess Tiana, also the company's first princess from African-American heritage. Set in New Orleans and featuring music by Randy Newman, the voices for some of the characters are being provided by Oprah Winfrey, John Goodman, Terrence Howard and Keith David. Anika Noni Rose is providing the voice for Princess Tiana.
