Shirley Jackson's Short Story - The Lottery (1969)

This was shown to us in English class, meant to provoke discussion. Not only did it succeed in that, the ending left a lot of us speechless. It left the entire class reeling for days.

Can I not edit my own post?

I meant to say that it was a 1969 film of a story written in 1948.

It skewers how people blindly follow conform and follow tradition, even when it means killing others...and the hypocrisy of those that blindly conform and follow tradition and participate in it until it's turned on THEM.

That's it in a nutshell.

You can't edit thread-starting posts. It's kind of annoying, but them's the breaks.

Also, I loved the short story growing up. I've never seen the adaptation. I look forward to it.
