The first official photo from All You Need is Kill shows us the movie's star, Tom Cruise, running from an exploding fireball while wearing a power suit of some kind. Cruise's character is a soldier named Bill Cage who, after constantly being killed and then resurrecting to fight again on a futuristic battlefield, grows from being a rookie with no war skills to a proven combat veteran.

Bill Paxton is heading back into the outer space military. He played Private Hudson in James Cameron's 1986 movie Aliens and now he's in talks to star in All You Need is Kill, playing the sergeant of Tom Cruise's character's platoon in the film.
Paxton has also starred in Cameron's bid budget epic Titanic, the first Terminator movie, Twister and five seasons as a polygamist on HBO's Big Love series.
The production wants to start filming this fall in London.

Tom Cruise is now circling this project, considering playing the lead role of the soldier that resurrects after each death to relive the same battle over and over again.
That doesn't necessarily mean that We Mortals Are would be Cruise's next movie that he makes. He's also been attached to star in Joseph Kosinski's Horizons, a sci-fi/adventure project set up at Universal.

It's official. Doug Liman will direct All You Need Is Kill for Warner Bros. No idea when the movie might roll in front of cameras as Liman has also agreed to direct a drama called Attica earlier in the year.

The Bourne Identity's Doug Liman is now talking with the studio about directing All You Need is Kill. However, Liman is already working with Warner Bros. on a Three Muskateers movie that the studio wants out next spring, meaning that that picture is on a hard delivery time table. Has the plan changed and is WB moving away from their Three Muskateers movie?

Hiroshi Sakurazaka's science fiction novel All You Need is Kill has been set up at Warner Bros. and is expected to rapidly move into filming within a year. Dante Harper adapted the book into screenplay format on spec; Deadline reports that Harper was paid low seven figures against $3 million for his work.
While it's very rare for a writer to adapt a novel on spec without agreeing to a deal upfront, this time the payoff was substantial for Harper and the film's producing team, former DreamWorks executive Jason Hoffs and 3 Arts' Erwin Stoff and Tom Lassally. The sizeable payoff for the finished script likely speaks to the finished product capturing the interest at Warner Bros.
An English translation of Sakurazaka's novel has been published by Viz Media.
