Creator of The West Wing and the screenwriter of The American President and the upcoming The Social Network, Aaron Sorkin has purchased the screen rights to Andrew Young's non-fiction book The Politician: An Insider's Account of John Edwards's Pursuit of the Presidency and the Scandal That Brought Him Down.

Sorkin plans on directing the film, which will mark his debut as a feature director. "This is a first-hand account of an extraordinary story filled with motivations, decisions and consequences that would have lit Shakespeare up," Sorkin was quoted as saying by The Hollywood Reporter. "There's much more to Andrew's book than what has been reported, and I'm grateful that he's trusting me with it."
