DiCaprio and Rounders screenwriters play their cards together

Leonardo DiCaprio and the writers of Rounders and Ocean's Thirteen are collaborating on a new film set in the world of online casinos run out of Costa Rica. Brian Koppelman and David Levien have only come up with the story pitch and are yet to start writing the screenplay but DiCaprio is attached to star in the film and produce via his Appian Way production company for Paramount Pictures.

Koppelman and Levien can be credited with sparking the trend of poker-themed movies with 1998's Rounders. They created the poker centric ESPN fictional series Tilt which was broadcast in 2005 and lasted for just nine episodes. This new project is the first one involving online casinos, a lucrative business that attracts millions of worldwide players and billions of dollars in revenue. Allegations of unscrupulous business practices have dogged the casinos but since they're incorporated outside of federal jurisdiction prosecution and regulation remains impossible to implement. Rumors have floated for years that some of the online casinos are bankrolled by international underworld players.
