Smallville renewed for a ninth season
Posted by Patrick Sauriol on Wednesday, February 25, 2009
After reaching a deal with star Tom Welling The CW Network has renewed Smallville for its ninth season.
The show which began as showing us the stories of Superman in his teen years has now moved on to focus on Clark Kent's young adulthood and life as a junior reporter working at The Daily Planet. The eighth season saw a change in showrunners and the mixing in of more elements from the greater DC Comics universe including the villain Doomsday, the Legion of Superheroes and the return of several previously introduced members from the Justice League.
With ratings still strong the network had floated interest in continuing the show but key was the participation of Welling. With that problem now eliminated it remains to be seen how many other Smallville cast members will re-up for season 9 and if Michael Rosenbaum can be persuaded to return to his role as Lex Luthor.
The CW also renewed five other shows: One Tree Hill, 90210, Gossip Girl, America's Top Model and a fifth season of Supernatural.

I'm watching the current season, but it's been on the bubble for me dropping it. When I thought it was going to be the last season, I planned on toughing it out. But now that it's not, I probably won't stick with it much longer.
