Sorcerer's Apprentice casts summer 2010 release date
Posted by Patrick Sauriol on Friday, March 20, 2009

July 16, 2010 is the opening day for The Sorcerer's Apprentice, the Nicolas Cage starring family fantasy adventure being produced by Pirates of the Caribbean's Jerry Bruckheimer.
Sorcerer's direct competition on that day is Warner Bros.' Inception, the sci-fi thriller that will be the next for The Dark Knight's Christopher Nolan.
Disney already had two major tentpoles lined up for release in summer '10. Prince of Persia, another Bruckheimer produced film, opens on May 28 while Toy Story 3 has a June 18 release.
The Sorcerer's Apprentice also stars Jay Baruchel and will be directed by National Treasure's Jon Turteltaub. And yes, with a title like that of course Apprentice is based on the Mickey Mouse segment from Disney's Fantasia...just don't ask me if Cage is playing the apprentice or if it's Baruchel.

This is just sad. There is no way they could re-capture the magic of the animation. Certainly not for an entire feature. Perhaps more information on this will come out and change my mind, but right now, I am very, very skeptical.
