Rachel McAdams and Channing Tatum have the new number one movie in the land, The Vow. The weekend leading up to Valentine's Day paid off handsomely for Screen Gems with The Vow earning an estimated $41.7 million dollars.

Considering that The Vow cost only $30 million to make, Screen Gems execs will be sporting wide smiles at the office tomorrow.

Denzel Washington and Ryan Reynolds also had some good news too as Safe House opened in a strong second place with $39.3m.

In #3 was Journey 2: The Mysterious Island. Originally forecast to gross somewhere in the mid-to-high teens, Journey 2 wound up surprising expectations and coming in with $27.5m.

The 3D re-release of Star Wars: The Phantom Menace performed like analysts thought it would, adding $23 million dollars more to its original take of $454 million domestic back in 1999.

With all of the major new competition last weekend's #1 film, Chronicle, tumbled down to the fifth position. With $12.3m in new box office Chronicle's 10-day total is up to $40.1m.

Here's how the rest of the top ten shakes out:

#6: The Woman in Black added $10.2m (its 10-day total is now $35.4m.)

#7: The Grey with $5.0m (for a total of $42.8m.)

#8: Big Miracle with $3.9m (total: $13.2m)

#9: The Descendants with $3.5m (total: $70.7m)

#10: Underworld Awakening with $2.5m (its three-weekend total is now $58.9m)
